Meanwhile, did you guys see the news about that incredible double hand transplantation at Johns Hopkins for a US vet? I’m so proud of Dr. Jaimie Shores, originally from Truth or Consequences, NM, who helped perform that procedure. It was fascinating having listened to my veterinarian father grill Jaimie about the details of the procedure as we waited to go out together for my wedding last weekend — Dr. Shores was one of my best men, and so was my dad. Jaimie’s been one of the most influential and important people in my life since I met him while breaking my high school basketball scoring record in 1991 while he was trying to cover me. Well, it was a couple years later at UNM where we become inseparable best friends. But, look at him now!

Former solider and Iraq war veteran Sgt. Brendan Marrocco is the recent recepient of a double arm transplant, which took place at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Marrocco lost all of his limbs during a roadside bomb attack in the spring of 2009. Gwen Ifill talks with Dr. Jaimie Shores, director of hand transplantation at Johns Hopkins.

There’s a revolution going on in medicine and Dr. Shores reminded me last night about how much I’ve learned and grilled him on the Medical Revolution over the years. Stay tuned for some analysis on this sector in coming months and years.
