The hints of progress generating a big lift for the market today is setting us back up for a major sell-the-news-reaction when they “negotiate” a so-called budget agreement. As my wife said she saw quoted yesterday, “So 3 wks ago we had enuf $ to invade Syria but today we can’t send social security checks or pay the veterans. Weird, huh?”

@doug.sekula: chart looks good all depends if U think (short term) we will have longer upside into debit ceiling deadline. Many stocks will tell us if we do rise a little longer and pullback as cody thinks if they had hit bottom on the 1st deep pullback or further to go as they will not fall as low the 2nd time around as they did the first.

I had a really good day yesterday…sold tons of XONE calls and all of my NFLX, YELP and some P puts right at the peak. Took some of the proceeds and bought FB and VIX puts which are doing great. Rarely goes this right so have to be thankful and recognize when it does.

TZA is an inverse ETF; its opposite is the bull TNA. I’ve played leveraged ETFs for a while, and have found that the inverses seem to “decay” or lose more value during the overnight reset, than does the bull counterpart. If it was me, I’d play the PUT side of the bull TNA, rather than calls on TZA.

I am shopping for a new system to replace my Dell. the Imac is a thing of BEAUTY and apple had a data transfer program to move all data from one machine to the other. BTW- I am about to write an article about the DEATH of movie theaters. in my “RESEARCH” I have bought a 40″ 3D LED smart samsung for the bedroom. I ordered it from Amazon who had the best price shipping etc. I have to say I have the device for 4 days and It is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! I am not just referring to image quality of sports, who saw that UNREAL Patriots win vs the saints in the last 5 seconds. The picture quality is second to NONE!! The smart hub is just a game changer. I mean to access netflix, amazon prime, hulu, youtube and so so much more is just going to destroy the idea of going to a movie theater to see anew movie (especially when movies will in short time be released to the home on opening day as they do in theaters for a premium).

I’m still on the idea that the markets seem to be uber-confident about another big rally into year end commencing upon “debt ceiling solution.” Sell-the-news set-up, IMHO. No trades for me today either. Cash $$ heavy and more heavily hedged with puts than I’ve been in a while. Will add to the puts if the market spikes short-term.

If no one is diggy as most have some sort of 401K, Ira, 529 plan, pension etc most should be seeing some better returns this year ( I know we had a lost decade). if most are fearful now does that say we have LONG way to go for some or more people to get giddy and this bubble to get even bigger and more people comfortable with it before a demise? @musa: things are not all out bullish on many indicators, u cant go by what U see the talking heads on cnbc, Look at actual internals as bloomberg article detailed, mcclellan oscilaltor, cnnc fear green indicator just to name a few items to look at. Individual stock and their charts are the true tells

Tesla upgraded at Wedbush OCT 15, 2013 | 7:26 AM EDT TSLA was upgraded from Neutral to Outperform, Wedbush said. $240 price target. Survey results are indicating higher third generation market potential.

Microsoft upgraded at Jefferies OCT 15, 2013 | 7:55 AM EDT MSFT was upgraded to Buy from Hold, Jefferies said. Earnings were also increased through 2014 as there is increased optimism on operational capabilities and product line. $42 price target.

@doug.sekula: Just yesterday we learned that iphone 5S was outselling 5C 2 to 1 so the more expensive unit better for margins is doing VERY WELL so 5C orders get cut as demand is not all there however it is for the 5S.

@eryba1: You can say I’m almost “all in” in my long positions waiting to “sell the news”. If we “sell the news” I would want to be back “in” before earnings which TQNT is one week away and FB two weeks from now (my two biggest positions) instead of selling the news I’m thinking on using any big decline in the markets tranche up one more time before earnings (love the risk). After earnings if there is still issues with the shutdown/debt BS I was thinking to sell at that time and wait for a bigger pullback to re enter, of course depending on the results of earnings. Sound logical?

At this stage in each ones portfolios with the sky rocket ascent of CIEN FB CREE FF and few others AMZN If you have chosen wisely in your stock selections and some timing ex sell rips higher buy dips your accounts should be at or near all time hi’s. if thats the case Its always WISE to try to keep accounts there. No needed for added risk especially around earnings if the stocks have not run higher INTO them. Lets be cautious around the debit ceiling and earnings and try to maintain accounts at hi levels. have some cash. Perhaps trim some into earnings if the stock has run a lot as expectations may be very hi unless stocks pullback with debit ceiling and other into earnings.

so protect yourself and ur acct. always have some cash, dont add or go all in on earnings especially if a stock has run a lot YTD and run into earnings vs a pullback of sorts just before earnings. Its wiser to play it safer as your accts grow, all the TWC subscribers. Elon Musks TSLS and now SCTY stocks are on fire. TSLA was a 25 dollar stock last summer. Solar City = SCTY was 11 dollars last dec today 52 up near 12%. if anyone is listening to the bank ceo’s and builders this debit ceiling is already hurting the economy. What is especially of interest is the tens of BILLIONS people are funneling to their savings accounts as they are fearful of whats going on. The usual pattern has been that investors and money managers put $$ they are given to work in the markets. It is ONLY after individual investors start to POUR money into the markets as they start to feel safer that the REAL BUBBLE gets going. Lets watch and see in the coming Months and years where those $$ direction is heading. Cody mentioned rates start to get competitive with stocks as cd’s or the 10yr gets to 5%. Today the 10yr is at 2.63. Let watch very carefully as this bubble further inflates and gets some competition.

My biggest decision right now is INTC. There’s a good article today on Seeking Alpha regarding INTC from an INTC bull who thinks it is dead money for awhile but a good long term play. I’m thinking of cutting my losses on those INTC calls…Obviously a big day in the market and those calls lost 14-16%
