I Had A Heart Attack
Remember Wednesday morning when I wrote that I went home from work for the first time in years because I had some “Covid-like symptoms”. I had been thinking at that moment that my chest pains were from my lungs.
Later, I thought I was dying from chest pain at 8pm that night. I took some Tums. Didn’t help. So I took a cough drop. Didn’t help. So I fought through that pain and tried to go to bed, isolated from my family in case it was indeed Covid.
Well, at 2am Thursday morning, I awoke with my chest causing more pain than any of the 20+ broken bones I’ve suffered in my life and at 6am I finally called to my wife to take me to the ER at the Lincoln County Medical Center.
An old friend from high school was the head nurse there and she and her team immediately got me an EKG and blood tests, both of which confirmed I was suffering from a minor heart attack.
They rushed me in an ambulance to a larger facility with a CATH Lab an hour away and eventually I was taken into surgery and had a stent put into my heart.
I’m 50 years old and thin and I eat pretty healthy and I play golf a few times a week and sometimes lift weights and do pullups and stuff. But I haven’t been eating as healthy as I used to in my 20s and 30s and I certainly don’t work out like I used to decades ago.
Regardless, I almost died from a heart attack and I was stupid for trying to tough through chest pains.
I know that I take my job(s), my family and my life very seriously and that’s who I am. I stress when I don’t win. I stress when I don’t kick butt. I stress when I feel like I’m just average. I won’t change that. But what I will change is my eating habits and some improvements to my daily lifestyle.
I will spend the rest of my life taking care of my heart and my health, including being on prescribed medication (blood thinners, cholesterol treatment, etc) for the first time in my life.
Thank God I had my new All-Star partner, Bryce Smith, here to keep the hedge fund steady and running as I collapsed into the hospital for two days. I’m back home now and am, tonight, starting to feel a little bit like myself again.
I’ll be back at the office this week. We’ll have new reports on some of our positions coming up this week and next and I’ll sit down and write up my full review of the earnings season next week. We’ll take this week off from the Live Q&A Chat and will return with it next week.
Thanks for any prayers and good vibes.
