ZNGA seems to have intrigued many by the new CEO shift as shares went from 2.6 to 3.5 I have initiated a small position in it and may look to add to that. Online gambling (ONLINE GAMBLING ALREADY ALLOWED IN BRITAIN) , better more graphic based sticky APPS with the new MSFT head of gaming chief now the new ZNGA CEO . Cody was very focused these in the chat yesterday so I am adding to my gold position as well today.

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 8:37 am

sndk in pre market is down to 60 again it has found support here on 2 other times if it breaks I will add if it holds I will add more common shares after that GREAt qtr

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 8:40 am

Facebook upgraded at JMP JUL 25, 2013 | 7:39 AM EDT FB was upgraded from Market Perform to Outperform, JMP Securities said. $38 price target. Company is becoming a “must buy” for advertisers.

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 9:00 am

FB up 30% in pre market time to think to take some off if only to wait for some natural pullback even if just intraday? Lets watch and see

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 9:07 am

cramer on CNBC now thinking FB goes STRAIGHT to 38!! znga moving this morning as well and reports tonight as well as AMZN

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 9:12 am

I would think most would EXPECT UGLY quarter from ZNGA tonight in light of new CEO many pink slips handed out and complete 180 about face company is undergoing. Wonder if market will buy if a BAD qtr will be bough or is that already occurring as the stock has risen since those firing when stock sold off 3.4 to 2.6 and now back to where it was before

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 9:45 am

adding some goog, gld, sndk znga common long today

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 10:00 am

if we listen to what QCOM has said and put together the APPL iphone sales combined with Fb MOBILE is one fire- data usage ala FFIV should be on FIRE, JNPR, CIEN need to give customers faster and more ability to deliver data faster, farther & wireless. SNDK data usage is sorely in demand as people take more pict, video post it, store it. As a result we seem to have quite a few of the BEST of the BEST stocks posied for further growth. Thus I am added sndk, goog, znga, gld and some ebay today

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 10:12 am

anyone trimming adding sitting pat?

jahmon

July 25, 2013 – 10:35 am

I just wish I had gone in a bit more…FB only at 5% of portfolio but a great jump up…haven’t trimmed yet. May try to let it run for a little bit. Interested in what Cody will say as well.

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 10:37 am

@jahmon: u can only say wisey U played it SMART- last qtr was a good one as well stock popped on great volume then gave back 20-30% this time market reacted diff so far. its hard to always BE right last time #’s were good market didnt car now #’s better market cares

jahmon

July 25, 2013 – 10:39 am

Indeed. My main concern now is LNN which is my one dog position…down 9% on a pretty big investment…trying to decide whether to hold or move the capital elsewhere…seems like dead money for awhile…

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 10:41 am

@jahmon: ok u decide give it more time or sell some free your min and buy other winners with great qtrs who have or are pulling back ala AAPL, SNDK, CIEN, goog.

tl15

July 25, 2013 – 11:23 am

@eryba1, do you have any concerns adding znga today given the jump up already? Do you see the potential for a drop after earning this afternoon giving the recent difficulties the company has had? Or do you think it’s possible that a good conference call will be enough to keep znga where it’s at?

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 11:26 am

@tl15: As always when it comes to earnings releases there is always concern. O bought a position today that I could ADD to if it drops for whatever reason and if it zooms higher on new CEO comments initiatives other I am happy with what I have. Would I chase if it POPS big time- No I would wait for a better opportunity. This company is now a turnaround story it will take time but as usual the potential is there.

tl15

July 25, 2013 – 11:30 am

@eryba1, why do you suspect that SNDK is suffering the last few days after strong earning report and strong earnings of its partners?

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 11:34 am

@tl15: not suffering just consolidating it ran to new ALL time hi’s before earnings running to 63 it pulled back to 60 then advanced to nearly 64 and now pulled back to 59. I sold some highe rand hoped for pullbacj to 58-60 and am using this pullback to add

tl15

July 25, 2013 – 11:36 am

@eryba1, thank you for your input

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 11:37 am

@tl15: as for ZNGA the MSFT executive was a BIG win for ZNGA. XBOX had become a very popular gaming console out of no where when it was created. Lets give the new CEO some time to turn around ZNGA. This will be his 1st CC as CEO hes been there for what less than 60 days lets see what he says, has done, plans to do etc

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 11:37 am

@tl15: NP

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 11:38 am

meanwhile lets watch GOLD as well

July 25, 2013 – 11:53 am

@msamuels2000: Thanks for your thoughts yesterday on BBRY. I mentioned you in my question to Cody, but somehow it got dropped. I took a chance with some far-out puts… We’ll see.

msamuels2000

July 25, 2013 – 12:06 pm

Cody wasn’t so high on the trade but it can go from 10 to 5 faster than from 100 to 50. Ameritrade had no shares to short and I already have some Dec puts so I sold some 2015 15.00 calls. I feel like I’ll never have to buy those back

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 12:48 pm

@msamuels2000: adding to my goog common under 890 and if we do get fr some reason FB to hit 38 or so I will trim some common there. AMZn and ZNGA on tap to report tonight

msamuels2000

July 25, 2013 – 1:57 pm

@eryba: Just increased my small ZNGA holding – probably not a good move into earnings but I’m placing a small bet that anything but a train wreck will keep the momentum going up

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 2:02 pm

@msamuels2000: We each ( at the end) do what we feel is right. A small position is just that, small cant hurt you. If we look at znga it has not had anything good go its way recently. The firing panicked people and the stock dropped 10-20%. Then the new CEO announcement popped the stock nearly 30%. At this point its in the CEO’s hands to turn this company around. The pop on his taking the job should bode well in regards to people outlook for what he can do but hes been on the job less than 30 days. Lets see the #’s mainly from the old CEO and direction the company had been on and what the NEW CEO plans to do and or has implemented in the past 30 days. People bought for the coming qtrs not the one that just closed.

tl15

July 25, 2013 – 3:04 pm

@Cody, @eryba1, if we have not yet had the opportunity to enter into a znga position, do you recommend waiting until after the ER this afternoon?

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 3:07 pm

@tl15: thats a toss up. I had not had a position in some time so I opened one today. If U wanted to start a position U an do / think of these options. After earnings U R safer. U see the cards the company has plans, goals, cash etc the market reacts and U know if the sentiment is positive or negative on whats said. if it spikes U know good things are in store and market expects more, a decline and u know things have turned sour and then U decide if the future is bright

Teewilly

July 25, 2013 – 3:08 pm

anyone considering ffiv or rvbd at these levels? rvbd I know at one time was high on Cody’s list….

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 3:08 pm

the trend is your friend. U can buy small now and hope for a pullback. If U like what U hear U will buy more on the decline. If it pops U either says great I will buy on pullback as things are looking better or say I missed it and move on to another name. With a NEW CEO less than 30 days into his job lots of cash and big potential its really is up to you. I decided to buy and will add on a decline or be happy if it pops.

nrmeshram

July 25, 2013 – 3:28 pm

Anybody playing AMZN for earnings today. I think it will go up . any suggestion of how to hedge.

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 3:30 pm

@nrmeshram: good question. My best hedge for myself is to take some off of a winning trade if its a decent sized portion of my portfolio. Too hard to determine markets reaction to amazon earnings its usually volatile. Its had a GREAT run from 250 so even good news can get sold as its had agreat run

nrmeshram

July 25, 2013 – 3:49 pm

What about ZNGA. Is it a good time to short or play long considering the FB pop today ?

eryba1

@nrmeshram: @tl15: thats a toss up. I had not had a position in some time so I opened one today. If U wanted to start a position U an do / think of these options. After earnings U R safer. znga says not pursuing US gaming licence rt now stock down to 3.15

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 4:24 pm

zinged by zenga at 2.97 lets wait for CC to see what CEO says

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 4:25 pm

Zynga will not pursue license for real money gaming in U.S. Zynga says it believes its biggest opportunity is to focus on free to play social games. While the company continues to evaluate its real money gaming products in the United Kingdom test, Zynga is making the focused choice not to pursue a license for real money gaming in the United States. Zynga says it will continue to evaluate all of its priorities against the growing market opportunity in free, social gaming, including social casino offerings

eryba1

ZNGA CEO background: Mattrick, 49, spent six years at Microsoft — the last three as president of the Interactive Entertainment Business. In that role, he was responsible for the team that grew Microsoft’s Xbox 360 global installed base by 700 percent to more than 75 million consoles. During his six-year tenure at Microsoft, Mattrick also oversaw businesses and services focused on consumer products that included the groundbreaking Kinect entertainment products and PC and mobile interactive entertainment. Mattrick served as the president of Worldwide Studios at Electronic Arts. During his 15-year career at Electronic Arts, Mattrick helped develop and scale the company’s leading global game franchises and brands including “Need for Speed,” “FIFA” and “The Sims.”

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 4:31 pm

At age 17, Mattrick founded his first company, Distinctive Software, which was acquired by Electronic Arts in 1991. “Mark took the lead in working with the entire board to recruit Don to Zynga,” said John Doerr, Member of the Zynga Board of Directors and General Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. “All of us at Zynga — and no one more than Mark — are thrilled Don is joining our mission to connect the world through games. This is a win for the people who play our games, the talented employees who make them and the investors who believe in our long-term value. This also is a win for Mark, who can devote his full attention to conceiving and building the best social games in the world.”

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 4:37 pm

Lets see what CEO says but from I have found so far is they want to see how Great BRitian online gambling goes before pursuing USA licence. Earnings are good we may not like that not application for US licence but to perfect is better than to jump in before knowing what / how to do. the CC will tell us all what CEO is thinking to do. If I like I will add more tomorrow if it stays at these levels

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 5:39 pm

anyone listening to ZNGA CC?

eryba1

July 25, 2013 – 5:43 pm

As we discussed earlier this is being detailed as a 2-4 QTR turnaround. stock down 15% A/H Mobile gaming growing wildly. this is a hit by hit basis is what it sounds like. Find the reason why people love HIT games what their attributes are and try to incorporate those attributes into games under development. 2000+ employees vs CANDY CRUSH makes KING with 4-500 people.

Short Sellers Choose One 3D Printing Stock to Like- We have tracked the key short interest changes as of July 15 in the following 3D printer and services companies: 3D Systems Inc. (DDD), Stratasys Ltd. (SSYS), The ExOne Co. (XONE) and Proto Labs Inc. (PRL

. Short interest in 3D Systems rose 0.5% to 27.04 million shares. Some 28.8% of the company’s stock is short. Short interest in Proto Labs rose 16.8% to 3.05 million shares, or 16.8% of the company’s float. Stratasys saw short interest rise by 4% in the first two weeks of July to 3.58 million shares, or about 13% of the company’s float.

eryba1

July 26, 2013 – 7:50 am

Short interest in ExOne fell by 7.8% to 2.15 million shares. About 31.8% of the company’s shares are now held short. Shorts continue to target Proto Labs in the 3D sector because the company is a service provider only. Because the other 3D printer makers also sell equipment as well as services, Proto Labs is seen to be at a disadvantage. 3D printer stocks are still trading near year-to-date highs, with all but Stratasys posting double-digit gains. However, because the technology is relatively new, it is difficult to tell whether stocks are at a peak and have no place to go but down, or if they are about to sprout wings and soar. It is a wait-and-see-what-happens-next game for now.

eryba1

July 26, 2013 – 9:36 am

@rkumar: for now watching it, let it settle down, I was disappointed about the online gambling as they said they wanted to pursue now not in USA. So the street is selling as a result. ANY sized position I dont like anything down 10-20% in one day

@cody @bill I echo eryba1’s question. ZNGA has been SUCH a focus of Cody’s recommendations lately — among other things, his respect for their cash position — so I would hope he could chime in today with his thoughts, now that the new CEO has spoken AND with today’s dive –which could make it a great opportunity, if he thinks so. July 26, 2013 – 2:46 pm

eryba1 Do you know what is going on with CIEN? Why this pull back?

eryba1

July 26, 2013 – 2:55 pm

@Johan: just natural profit taking it popped from 16.2 to 20.7 pulled back to 19 then hit 23 so normal pullback reports in a month from today

eryba1

July 26, 2013 – 2:56 pm

@Johan: U may not like it but U want a stock to move in a stair step fashion, U want people to buy and a pullback gives them an opportunity. Its normal and healthy

opinion about ZNGA from naother investors take on the CC last night: Mattrick was asked why does Candy Crush maker King have 400 employees and Zynga had 2,300. He said “just imagine if we get our act together and imagine how many games we can pump out each year vs. one or two for them.” This thing will likely bump around these levels for the next few weeks. But make no mistake, on the first signs of a hit game, this thing will rocket.

eryba1

July 26, 2013 – 3:14 pm

His message to Wall Street last night was: don’t expect much from us for 6-12 months. He also had a new message that has caused the selloff today in the stock: don’t expect us to do real-money gaming. This has been investors’ big hope for Zynga. It was the free-call option built into the stock at this price. Mattrick was saying that the company can’t realistically get a license in the U.S., so it has to call a spade a spade and focus on the core free-to-play gaming business instead. The call said a lot about Mattrick’s style last night. He’s clearly now in charge. Mark Pincus introduced the new chief exec and then said nothing for the duration of the call. It’s Don’s show now.

eryba1

July 26, 2013 – 3:14 pm

Mattrick also answered every analyst question or directed the CFO or COO to answer them. They did so dutifully. I’m not sure how long COO David Ko sticks around given that Mattrick suggested the state of operations are not great currently. The turnaround of Zynga is likely coming soon. It’s not four quarters away and I don’t think it’s even two quarters away.

It was a WILD but I would think GOOD week for most AAPL,AMZN,LNKD,FB all outperformed. A few pullbacks in CIEN and SNDK were quite strong today, ZNGA dissapointed many in the no gambling licence for now statement. However new CEO stated its a company on the mend. Gold is making some sort of attempt to break above 1350 (resistance line). Lets see what next week brings as we get earnings from FSLR,DDD and LNKD next week. rest up this weekend and do something fun.

An interesting article I came across this weekend- How APPLE Stock is hurting brokers and the market. It discusses the trading vehicle apple had become and its popularity that when it dropped from 705 to 385 many people got hurt in more ways than 1. Accounts at brokers dried up, people stopped trading, people left the investing / trading field as a result: http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2013/07/28/apple-is-hurting-your-broker.aspx

cramer on todays ad company merger: First, the Publicis-Omnicom merger is meant to be defensive in nature against the encroachment of Google (GOOG) and others that deal directly with the powers that be. When PepsiCo (PEP), for example, wants to do a Twitter buy, it sits down with Twitter, not its ad agency. To me, this is a good deal for Omnicom (OMC) shareholders, but as far as long range implications it would be better if either or both went out and bought Twitter. To me, all this deal does is verify what we know: the world has changed and the old-line firms seemed to be eclipsed by Google, Facebook (F

and Twitter. The conventional press is saying Google and Facebook should be worried. The buyers today are scooping

eryba1

July 29, 2013 – 12:42 pm

up Google and Facebook because this merger is a verification of what some knew, but now everyone knows: the upper hand for Internet ads belongs to Internet companies, not Madison Avenue

Anyone playing ER on SIMO or PMCS tonight?

Not sure I will touch PMCS & SIMO – however I did buy a bunch of DDD calls this morning – they have jumped over 100% today – so I have sold half, so going into ER I am guaranteed to break even if the stock falls – if it goes up I will be well in the black. Nice when it falls that way

eryba1

July 29, 2013 – 2:21 pm

@ebdavids: not sure I asked him myself offline for his take on ZNGA but didnt hear back. long or short term the earnings did not sway me other than no gambling licence for now in USA as a test of sorts in great Britian.

@Olivepetunia: no this one was as another person mentioned here digi times saying pricing or demand will weaken in Q3-4 vs what SNDK said specifically is a pickup and thus they raised #’s. It was bound to pullback after new all time hi’s at 63-64 now a near 15% haircut

Cody, is LNN a takeover candidate?

ebdavids

July 30, 2013 – 2:32 pm

Just for giggles, i checked out how the other ER plays Cody mentioned yesterday fared. As of 2:25ish ET, all are down between 1 and 3 percent with the exception of the don’t-touch-this-it’s-apenny-stock LOOK which was up 3% (but still good advice). SIMO is up almost 13%, PMCS down about 7%. So we know Cody (a) jumped into the high-velocity movers (looking at least at the underlying stocks) and (b)did pretty well if, as he said, you bought at least as much SIMO as PMCS. Nice job, Cody.

nice action continues in AAPL FB GOOG. Endless 17% slide continues every day since earnings for SNDK. I guess digi times is smarter than SNDK exes as it gets further oversold

eryba1

July 30, 2013 – 3:03 pm

I am going to add sndk common here at 54 when it was 63.5 just 8 days ago I was hoping to add under 58 – be careful what U ask for. Using RSI it is the most oversold all year

ebdavids

July 30, 2013 – 3:04 pm

jahmon

July 30, 2013 – 8:37 pm

Wow…you guys see this?

jahmon

July 30, 2013 – 8:37 pm

Facebook (FB +6.8%) plans to sell 15 second long TV-type ads on its site for as much as $2.5M per day, reports Bloomberg. Back of the envelope: $2.5M times 365 days equals nearly $1B per year (company earned about $330M on revenue of $1.8B last quarter). Already having a big day in continuation of a massive post-earnings move, the stock is within pennies of its $38 IPO price. Previous: Facebook launches mobile game publishing.

eryba1

July 31, 2013 – 7:37 am

@msamuels2000: down 18% since the close for RVBD.

eryba1

July 31, 2013 – 7:39 am

@jahmon: Nice source of extra funds- Looks like codys 80-100 target can be attained if these sources of revenue keep rolling in and working thats the key. limited ads more focused on each users likes and people responding to them which is happening so the stock and investors r finally responding
