GM, anyone buying twtr below $30?

jpsr1975

November 7, 2013 – 9:05 am

i bought some shares on the IPO

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 9:13 am

@raj27on: I have not.

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 9:22 am

Don’t buy $TWTR today for ego. Buy it only if u think it will help you safely grow you money.

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 9:22 am

I’m not planning on buying any $TWTR this morning.

mpage

November 7, 2013 – 9:23 am

TY Cody. You just gave me the push off of the fence I needed on that one.

raj27on

November 7, 2013 – 9:38 am

thank you. ‘safely grow my money’ aspect probably is the discipline to adhere to

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 9:39 am

@raj27on: a very important discipline!

raj27on

November 7, 2013 – 9:40 am

just cancelled my buy twtr order at $28

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 9:40 am

@raj27on: last trade range is 35 pre market

jpsr1975

November 7, 2013 – 9:48 am

i will sell my TWTR shares today….a lot of euphoria maybe

jahmon

November 7, 2013 – 9:48 am

Why is twitter not trading on open market yet?

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 9:49 am

@jahmon: when they are ready indications 40-44 a share

joe.evicel

November 7, 2013 – 9:49 am

@jahmon: I think they said about a 1 hr delay

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 9:55 am

adding some LNKD shares today at 217 and some TSLA for a trade at 141

jahmon

November 7, 2013 – 9:56 am

Already time to short it?

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 9:57 am

@jahmon: ? short TWTR U mean?

jahmon

November 7, 2013 – 9:57 am

Yup

jahmon

November 7, 2013 – 9:58 am

Was kidding really, wanted to be the first to ask

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 9:58 am

@jahmon: lets see it open first

shorting is not on my list of things to do for TWTR today

drefleury

November 7, 2013 – 10:28 am

anyone have guidance on PCLN’s earnings tonight? I’m a little nervous, which probably means trim. I’m short BTW.

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 10:32 am

$TWTR now being quoted to open at $45-47 #TwitterIPO. I thought it would take a couple weeks to go to $50. Maybe it’s a couple hours in this bubble-blowing bull market instead. I repeat that I am not buying $TWTR today.

jpsr1975

November 7, 2013 – 10:33 am

@Cody: Cody what about PCLN earnings tonight? Trim our puts or hold?

msamuels2000

November 7, 2013 – 10:34 am

Interesting post from a Seeking Alpha blogger on Fairfax debenture just a positioning ploy to emerge with the assets from a future bankruptcy. http://seekingalpha.com/article/1815492-fairfax-financials-debt-investment-in-blackberry-could-wipe-out-shareholders?source=yahoo

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 10:34 am

@jpsr1975: If u’re asking whether or not you should trim some $PCLN puts before earnings tonight, it probably means you’ve got too much exposure to $PCLN puts, so yeah, consider trimming some.

jpsr1975

November 7, 2013 – 10:35 am

@Cody: Thank’s Cody!

Golfcar101

November 7, 2013 – 10:36 am

may be the day to start cree position

jakef1111

November 7, 2013 – 10:40 am

I think twtr will do better then fb just based on float. Fb was being peddled by everyone and the offering was being raised constantly….. I agree with cody about waiting for dust to settle but i dont see buying it 10$ cheaper

jakef1111

November 7, 2013 – 10:41 am

At least not in this market

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 10:52 am

@jakef1111: there are many positives, Insiders were dumping on FB a BIG negative, TWTR the opposite. For us we can watch and see vs being in. its open 46. a share

jakef1111

November 7, 2013 – 10:52 am

I bought a small nibble at 45

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 10:53 am

$TWTR’s trading $46 to open here. With most pundits and long-only investors seeming to hate this $TWTR valuation, maybe there’s a run to $50? Not sure I’d want to try to catch a 10% move in $TWTR though.

jakef1111

November 7, 2013 – 10:53 am

I also bought some fb thinkin people would want some social media exposure and think twitter opened much higher then expected

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 10:55 am

@jakef1111: I was in the same bot I was allocated some shares at 33 went to 38 felt good fell to 30 I cut my losses, tried to stay disciplined. Cody was buying 20’s to 18 I bought then and have been rewarded

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 10:59 am

By my calculations, $TWTR just left $1.6 billion of shareholder money on the table by pricing their 80 million shares of stock they’ve sold $20 under where the market is today.

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 10:59 am

I don’t understand why people call this $TWTR IPO a success and why the $FB IPO, which got every damn dollar out of its IPO it could for shareholders, is called a failure. FLIP IT!

jakef1111

November 7, 2013 – 11:00 am

The social media stocks remind so much of B2B stocks when the previous bubble was in full force… All they have to do is make so many pennys per transaction and they will have trillion dollars in revs… CMRC commerce one 1000$ price target everyone plowing in head first….. When it was all said and done those stocks dont even exist anymore….. When the reality sets in and the idea on making pennys per user becomes growing the pennys per user and making money as well continuously i think it will be ugly… Maybe not a good comparison cuz those cos were bleeding money away but thats what it reminds me of

musa

November 7, 2013 – 11:03 am

TWTR looks like it wants to go to $70 by the end of the month. might make a trade in this one soon

jpsr1975

November 7, 2013 – 11:04 am

Golfcar101

November 7, 2013 – 11:05 am

drefleury

November 7, 2013 – 11:08 am

dang, TSLA lost the love

drefleury

November 7, 2013 – 11:10 am

@Cody: Any idea how GSV swung to a profit last quarter? Sure looks suspect… Any thoughts, as earnings are tonight. If it was shady, that could bode well for our puts.

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 11:11 am

GSVC crashing today, down 10% in the last 24 hours. Selling 1/3 of my puts or so.

musa

November 7, 2013 – 11:18 am

TSLA will probably under 100 bucks soon. all the money going to twitter at least today.

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 11:24 am

I love my mother-in-law and she is a brilliant, wise woman. But she just called me about $TWTR. That is not bullish for $TWTR, IMHO.

drefleury

November 7, 2013 – 11:27 am

@Cody: Not sure if my previous post went through. Which strikes are you starting with on GSVC? Higher or lower?

Cody

November 7, 2013 – 11:29 am

@drefleury: Higher

drefleury

November 7, 2013 – 11:29 am

thx

musa

November 7, 2013 – 11:40 am

yea its not bullish until you see it go up another 20 bucks. i say twitter goes higher

msamuels2000

November 7, 2013 – 11:56 am

PCLN put action is pointing to a disappointing ER. I’d almost rather see the common run up a little into earnings leading up to greater disappointment. Those puts go up much higher I’m going to take em off the table and sit out the ER

jahmon

Is the hardest trade a CREE call right now?

eryba1

November 7, 2013 – 1:14 pm

@jahmon: this could be the start of that correctioon we have all wanted to start adding so lets be a bit patient. ZNGA and CREE are new positions for me so I am looking to add down about 4% each today. QQQ hedge acting well. will we c 80? lets see

from Jim Cramer now: I am looking for the ones they are throwing away because in the end I think it is business as usual. We are in the midst of a growth-stock sell-off. They are always vicious. When they are happening, they always feel like the end of the world. They last for three to four days. Today feels like day two and nothing more than that, particularly because the bonds are tame and rates seem to have stopped going higher. My Charitable Trust is picking away at names tossed out in disgust or fear.

Priceline.com increases estimates, price target at UBS NOV 08, 2013 | 7:38 AM EST PCLN lifted its numbers, UBS said. Excellent execution in strategy led to growth in several important metrics. $1220 price target and Buy rating.

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 8:01 am

That’s right, at least seven price upgrades on PCLN this am with the target of 1200 or more. Amazing that this company continues to perform and adjust expectations, still flying higher and making a strong move this am.

Cody

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 2:20 pm

@nevy72: Bull or bear whose more scared? I believe thats a very subjective question. At yesterdays close investors holding CIEN TQNT CREE LND JNPR FB in any sizeable way and other stock specific names were feeling VERY VERY BEARISH. These names have fallen 10-20% in a straight line. Even though some of these names are up big 10-20% declines straight down is scary. So until yesterdays close the averages have help up well aside for the russell 2000 = small cap names. So these investors were feeling bearish.

Should we be thinking about GDX puts? This has been a one way trip down with no end in sight…

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 2:41 pm

@jahmon: It sure looks that way. Do U have stops in place on common shares? I have decided to wait until the GDL crosses above the 50 day avg and follow through with volume to see a new uptrend is in place

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 2:49 pm

an uptrend should last longer than trying to pick spots on the downside while the $$ allocated sits idle or losing money, instead of uptrending stocks that have pulled back to support area and could resume a new uptrends.

TWTR down 8% today

msamuels2000

November 8, 2013 – 3:20 pm

Safest play right now is shorting BBRY into bankruptcy. As long as people keep buying $10 calls I’m going to sell them. May have to wait 12-18 months but it’s like writing myself a check every time a trade goes through

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 3:22 pm

@msamuels2000: I would rather invest on long side of stocks and their upside vs shorting BBRY and a possible white horse savior for all or some of their company and its intellectual properties which would squeeze the shorts potentially

msamuels2000

November 8, 2013 – 3:26 pm

@eryba1: The way they are burning through their cash it can’t be saved and now they are losing their place as the defacto standard for defense contractors. That was the only defend-able position they had left. Assets are worth about $2 / share and falling fast

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 3:30 pm

@msamuels2000: I feel the same, but dont want a part trying to short it into bankruptcy, when a white knight can arrive to drive your position the wrong way. For a trade it may be fine for an investment in any size I would not.

msamuels2000

November 8, 2013 – 3:34 pm

@eryba1: good advice!

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 3:35 pm

@msamuels2000: I think we are better off understanding FB and a possible support level found. Understanding the cheap PE valuation in AAPL. Understanding amazon is a GREAt play on holiday shopping the next 2 months and years to come.

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 3:39 pm

For anyone interested Today I have let go of my QQQ short I think we are headed higher into year end, this was a shakeout that was needed and reset many stocks.

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 3:42 pm

I am VERY interested to see what will eventually (if correct) spark the GOLD upside which has eluded us all for many many months after its correction from 1895 to 1250 currently at 1287. Call me suspect until we see an uptrend emerge

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 3:51 pm

now this from cramer: yesterday was a Bottom? Thursday was one of those selloffs that didn’t have a lot of gravitas. Sure, maybe the market should have gone up on a European Central Bank cut. But I didn’t think it should. Much of my thesis for positive fourth-quarter earnings surprises stemmed from currency upside, but that’s lost if the euro stays this weak. I was concerned about Whole Foods (WFM) and Qualcomm (QCOM) being weaker than expected, but I didn’t think the market’s hideous selloff could be that deeply rooted in the disappointing results from those senior growth names. I also didn’t buy into the notion that Twitter (TWTR) represented a top based on the irony of the public at last coming back to stocks because I don’t believe — and have never believed — in irony as a p

eryba1

November 8, 2013 – 3:51 pm

No, my thinking — something I shared with Stephanie Link and Matt Horween — was that somebody knew something we didn’t and if nothing big happened, then we would be game-on. Well, nobody knew anything and the selloff is now looking a little like the classic kind of buying opportunity this market keeps giving us. Let me be a little more severe, though, so I can be as unassailable as those who said it was the real deal: Go sell what you bought yesterday and lock it in. That way I do not have to assert that yesterday was the bottom. I just need to say it was an opportunity, because I am tired of being lambasted for being bullish even if I am right.

Cody – How would you trade XONE heading into their ER this coming Wednesday afternoon? Strong results from DDD and SSYS mean anything?

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 8:16 am

GM- Cody has been saying for some time about places to put your money co compete with stocks and the possible duration of this bull market in the non competitive market for money. Jim Cramer chimes in this morning with very similar thoughts: So let’s put it like this: As a bull, I could read these stories and have said, “That’s it. I have been a bull since March of 2009 and I want out. This is it. I am done.” I do see plenty of areas I want to avoid, because they seem expensive. But to pull out now because individual investors are “back,” even as they are barely in town? Let’s just say, find me something else good to do with my money and I am there. If not, feed me some more negatives.

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 8:16 am

I need them to convince me to put my money in a CD yielding 0.82%, the current rate in a five-year piece of paper — something that, in the end, seems pretty frothy to me.

November 11, 2013 – 9:08 am

Yesterday, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) reached a deal with the US Postal Service to deliver packages on Sundays to New York and LA customers. In 2014, Houston, Dallas, New Orleans, and Phoenix will also get Sunday deliveries. It’s a definite boon to the postal service, which lost $11.6 billion in the first nine months of this year alone, and for Amazon prime members, but not as good for competitors who don’t have the clout to negotiate a special deal like this. Hi Cody – How would you trade XONE heading into their ER this coming Wednesday afternoon? Strong results from DDD and SSYS mean anything?

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:25 am

3D stocks leading performers today.

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 11:35 am

Should we trim XONE b4 Wed ER?

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:38 am

@echan008: very subjective question. How much do U have? % of portfolio? cost basis?

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 11:39 am

2nd largest in my portfolio. 20%.

msamuels2000

November 11, 2013 – 11:39 am

@echan008: This is a tough call for me – My XONE calls expire Friday. Up big but the contract price hasn’t caught up to the share price yet. Probably bank the calls if the prices synch and let my common ride

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:40 am

@echan008: up 20% into earnings or 20% of your portfolio, 2nd largest holding? 20% for one position is too large IMO

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 11:41 am

@eryba1: 20% portfolio and 22% earning. I bot it at $49

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:44 am

@echan008: from those #’s U already know my response. Protect your gains. U can always buy back some or all or more of what U sold when U know its safer to do so after earnings and markets reaction to them if they are good. If they are taken negatively we have seen what can be done to a stock like CREE TQNT JNPR even w/o earnings a CIEn from 27.6 to 23

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 11:44 am

@eryba1: I am very good at trenching in but I am not good at trimming.

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:46 am

@echan008: so begin the process of trimming if you want to lock in some of those gains and then have free capital to invest back in xone after earnings and or other stiocks that have reported that have corrected or pulled bk a bit. Like a FB CREE TQNT AMZN

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:46 am

Let me add LNKD as well and GOOG. GOOG trades at a multiple like Clorox, back out its cash and less than that. APPLE in the same camp

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 11:47 am

@eryba1: Thanks. I will probably trim 1/3 today or tomorrow and wait till ER.

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:48 am

@echan008: sounds like a plan, U can NEVER EVER go wrong selling 20% gains. Its the 20% losses U never want to be part of. Especially with a holding thats 20% of your portfolio! Thats too dangerous again IMO.

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 11:50 am

Take the free cash and buy strong stocks who ran into earnings and pulled bk afterwards from a FB, LNKD, CREE or stronger reports from a GOOG AMZN FSLR who pullback to find support areas

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 11:53 am

@eryba1: Exactly. Thanks.

rkumar

November 11, 2013 – 12:35 pm

anyone like twtrr at a partivular price??

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 12:36 pm

@rkumar: yes at a multiple thats not 17X FB’s sales

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 12:38 pm

We all know its growing has value its a just way overpriced on NO earnings, market doesnt care for now. For now I would rather own a LNKD, FB, AMZN,GOOG, into year end

@tendency: Sounds good to me!

msamuels2000

November 11, 2013 – 2:12 pm

@eryba1: Elad do you think there is anything to the premise that TWTR is taking enough demand from FB to move the needle slightly negative and when the twitter glitter runs out investors will head back to FB?

Jeffhok1970

November 11, 2013 – 2:15 pm

how low can the $vix go?

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 2:15 pm

@msamuels2000: aside from Fb acting that way, Personally I do not think that. For now TWTR is the new shinny bike on the block. I can only speak from my own usage with friends and family that our FB usage is only increasing not decreasing. FB much richer media format. and the fact FB U allow users in vs TWTR anyone can come in is a HUGE thing for me personally and others. These and other items I highlighted in the article I wrote for TWC when Fb was in the mid 20’s and I fell no different about that today.

jahmon

November 11, 2013 – 2:17 pm

@Elad But he also now thinks it will be more like 18 months…his options expire in January 2014

Doing my part to increase the stock price

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 2:20 pm

@Jeffhok1970: sometimes it can be misleading as individual stocks do their own thing while markets go up or down as we have just seen, thus lets watch vix, breadth, greed / fear index, oscillator etc but firmly watch the action in each particular stock holding

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 2:21 pm

@jahmon: again longer term outlook and he doenst mind waiting for it to rise as gold has been in a channel 1350 to 1250

@jahmon: how many lumens?

SamsaricSufferer

November 11, 2013 – 2:32 pm

musa

November 11, 2013 – 2:37 pm

@SamsaricSufferer: sounds like a good idea. ill probably do the same before the close

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 2:39 pm

@eryba1: Trim 1/3 XONE at 61.50 for 25% profit. But my GDX, FB, TQNT, and LNKD are still in red. FB is oversold today. (Based on wallstreetallstars.com). Thinking of trench in some FB.

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 2:42 pm

@echan008: 25% pr Nice move lock some in. LNKD I bot some last week around this level yes oversold. TQNT looks like it wants to retest 7, FB lets see if it can find support here at 46.5. GDX fri in the green as gold was down and today staging a comeback near green today.

echan008

November 11, 2013 – 2:48 pm

@eryba1: my TQNT cost basis is 7.8. I may buy some more when it retest 7.

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 2:50 pm

@echan008: thats why we buy tranches so we dont have an all or nothing and possibly miss if we are to have a style to buy pullbacks vs strength.

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 2:51 pm

TSLA- getting a much deserved needed bounce today from a very oversold level

jahmon

November 11, 2013 – 2:51 pm

@eryba1 2700 lumens soft white 60w

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 2:52 pm

@jahmon: thats a good #. I had bought CREE 850 Lumens and it was inadequate 1675+ lumens is equivalent to a 100W standard incandescent light bulb we have become accustomed to.

jahmon

November 11, 2013 – 3:09 pm

I’ll report back. If I like them I’ll probably buy the 40w versions as well.

jahmon

November 11, 2013 – 3:10 pm

Built to last 20 years at $1 a year using 3 hours a day…

msamuels2000

November 11, 2013 – 3:11 pm

@eryba1: I like to keep the lumens to a minimum. Around 650 is where I start to become more attractive

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 3:12 pm

@msamuels2000: romantic light setting I understand!!

msamuels2000

November 11, 2013 – 3:14 pm

Does XONE look overbought or is there more room. Timing couldn’t be better for this run but I don’t want to get greedy

Olivepetunia

November 11, 2013 – 3:43 pm

jahmon

November 11, 2013 – 3:45 pm

eryba1

November 11, 2013 – 3:52 pm

November 11, 2013 – 9:57 pm

I feel that in an effort to get your baby, Scutify, going, you have neglected this chat.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 3:33 am

@jahmon: big difference- Try the 800 if U R a fan of low dim lighting which you stated is where you shine and look your best you will love it. To me they felt like 50 watt bulbs in the room I tried them in and as a result were not bright enough to “LIGHT UP” the room as I needed.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 3:35 am

@Lu: On the contrary Cody has made more and more midweek appearances here than ever before in addition to the weekly chat. Many wanted him here more often and he made himself visible and available on this chat almost on a daily basis. Were you needing some specific info?

drefleury

November 12, 2013 – 9:08 am

@Cody – VIX calls? I’m considering nibbling on some.

Lu

November 12, 2013 – 9:30 am

@eryba1 Cody makes many more daily comments on Scutify than he does here. He also makes very few comments about open orders. In addition, many of his subscribers ask daily questions that go unanswered. All that being said, Cody is good at what he does, it would be nice if he would share his views more often.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 9:43 am

@Lu: then lets bring it up in the wed 2pm chat. I have his app but dont follow its daily. If thats the case and he does post there more than here with more vital info then here then maybe that needs to be addressed.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 9:44 am

CIEN acting better has it found some support at 23? lets wacth

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 9:49 am

JIM CRAMER this morning cofirming what we here have all been saying and seeing APPLE: This weekend we heard about how they are going to launch larger-screen phones and flexible phones, two well-liked characteristics of competitor Samsung’s phones. Then we heard from Piper Jaffray, the endless defender of Apple, that it has a new in-home patent that could help them develop the living room. That, plus an incredible article about how Apple’s solidifying a huge lead in Japan where sales are extraordinarily strong. And what does the stock do? Nothing. It is now back entirely to its underperforming ways.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 9:49 am

Which brings me to a remarkable conclusion: Apple’s become hated. There is no other justification for this discount. Apple were could bid $35 billion for Twitter, a nice premium to the $25 billion valuation to which I actually think the stock would jump. I reiterate that even up here if Apple were to buy Netflix at $30 billion it would get the stock going.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 9:50 am

As much as I like how Icahn has galvanized managements to return cash, I think returning cash the way Icahn wants is a big mistake. It will do nothing for the longt erm. But sitting on cash isn’t going to do anything either. That’s why, as much as I like Apple, unless it stops talking to Icahn and starts talking to bankers about an acquisition that gives them “social” the stock will be dead in the water until estimates come down so far that it can blow them away. And judging by the action — we aren’t there yet.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 10:10 am

@Lu: as for Cody and his increased presence you are speaking of for scutify I believe he is just trying to get it launched and moving in the direction the TWC site is now at and hopefully further.

msamuels2000

November 12, 2013 – 10:20 am

msamuels2000

November 12, 2013 – 10:27 am

XONE has run up to their last three ERs then sold off 10% directly after. I think we will see a little movement higher tomorrow but either way history is telling me to sell out of the calls before the ER

eryba1

Cody

November 12, 2013 – 10:33 am

@Lu: We’re trying to develop a TWC app that works as well as the Scutify apps, which enable me to post to http://Scutify.com so easily. I’ve been here in the chat room a LOT more lately, but the last few days I’ve been swamped with finishing a couple Deep Dives for subscribers who requested them. I am in the Subscriber Chat Room most days at least a couple times and try to get all the questions answered that I see. Sorry for not being here even more.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 10:33 am

I am like the action in FB VERY much could we have or be forming a W bottom here and the vol 60 min into the trading day is quite strong at 26M when avgdaily vol is 77M

Cody

November 12, 2013 – 10:34 am

@drefleury: VIX calls are looking like a good price for hedging the portfolio here again.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 10:40 am

lets see FB get above its 50 day avg of 48.5 and go from there to determine its next true direction short to mid term

jahmon

November 12, 2013 – 10:43 am

Cody, what about our existing VIX calls that are quite red?

Cody

November 12, 2013 – 10:47 am

@jahmon: I’m just holding the existing $VIX calls hedges steady. Portfolio going up, VIX calls going down.

calmdaw1

November 12, 2013 – 10:49 am

@Cody: any thoughts on RAX?

Cody

November 12, 2013 – 10:52 am

@calmdaw1: Not really, haven’t looked at the valuation there in a while. From JPM: RAX – Sept results better than print ests; they guide Dec revs up 3-5% Q/Q (the St is modeling 3.8%); mgmt. says they are seeing some signs that trends are beginning to turn for the better (although they caution this progress may not be linear); overall investors were a bit underwhelmed (the stock traded down to ~$45 in the after-hours vs. a $49+ close) as 1) there was some hope revs would show more acceleration and 2) during the call mgmt. talked about margins staying around 30% for now (they have been doing low-30%s in the last few qtrs. so this remark suggests the model won’t see near-term leverage); nothing was “bad” in the Q but w/the stock having a strong recent run (up ~40%+ off the June lows) the co needed to “do more” to get the stock much above $50 in the near-term; Revs $389MM (vs. the St $387.5MM), EBITDA $125MM (vs. the St $113MM), EBITDA margins 32.1% (vs. the St 29.16%), public cloud revs $108.4MM (vs. JPM $105.4MM), monthly upgraded +1.5% (inline w/JPM est), churn 0.8% (better than JPM’s 1% forecast). For Dec, they see revs up 3-5% Q/Q (St modeling +3.8%). They will give ’14 guidance on the Q4 call in Feb.

calmdaw1

November 12, 2013 – 10:55 am

@Cody: ok, thanks.

calmdaw1

November 12, 2013 – 10:57 am

I am watching TSLA for a re-test of the 132 area. I think it breaks lower

Lu

November 12, 2013 – 10:58 am

@cody: thanks for your response. I admire what you are doing with Scutify but actually prefer the instant feedback that is available here. I hope that you will make a greater effort to discuss open positions with us because the market changes so quickly, and I, at least, and often wondering if a change in price is an opportunity to buy more or an indication that I should sell and get out.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 10:59 am

@calmdaw1: watching along with U as I have some long shares in TSLA looking for a bigger bounce than yesterdays 5% thats being negated today.

calmdaw1

November 12, 2013 – 11:00 am

@eryba1: I have puts as far out as March 14 and down to $100.

eryba1

November 12, 2013 – 11:00 am

@calmdaw1: that would sting, but I would have cut lose by then if thats the case 10% down is my limit even for the few shares I now have

November 12, 2013 – 11:06 am

@Lu: Thanks and I agree.

Jeffhok1970

JSmith

November 12, 2013 – 11:20 am

@Cody: any luck looking at SWIR?

Cody

November 12, 2013 – 11:27 am

@JSmith: I looked at $SWIR, but it’s always been and still is too commoditized and cyclical a business for me to invest in. If you can ride the cycles of the fundamentals and thusly the stock up and down, you can really make $SWIR a great trading vehicle, but it’s not a Revolution Investment.

JSmith

November 12, 2013 – 11:28 am

@Cody: thanks

Cody

November 12, 2013 – 11:29 am

jahmon

November 12, 2013 – 11:36 am

Hahaha…JSmith you sound like me now…\

JSmith

November 12, 2013 – 11:37 am

@jahmon: we should do the opposite, then maybe one of us would make money…however, the likely result with options would be a stagnate stock price, and we both lose

jahmon

Cody, would you agree with this assessment? “BOTH Ciena and FNSR were taken down after ATT said they were reducing CAPEX from $21 Billion in 2013 to $20 billion in both 2014 and 2015. BUT, if you read the transcript of the CC, they also said that fiber could be stronger. They initially hit Ciena much harder than FNSR because ATT is such a big customer for Ciena that they would be impacted more. BUT, they ultimately DID take FNSR down close to its August gap recently, even though ATT doesn’t comprise anywhere NEAR the proportion of revenues for FNSR as it does for Ciena”

@Cody: @eryba1: I would like to suggest that Cody post an “ER Alert” , at least for options holdings, if not for each and every holding, on ER day (or leading up to that day), discussing various options (no pun intended) on how to navigate through the ER.

GM we are getting further oversold on the markets yet individual stocks seems to have found some footing. ZNGA up 4% this morning. FB trying to turn green. LNKD up less than 1%. TSLA up 1.5%, Cree trying to find the green as the 3 market averages are down .25-.4%

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 9:51 am

FSLR is also acting well up 1.5% in very early trading.

doug.sekula

November 13, 2013 – 10:09 am

GM all, @eryba1: after selling a lot of my FSLR after earnings, when would it be a good time to get back in to increase my exposure? Still holding some at 60% gains.

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:10 am

@doug.sekula: it seems it wants to RUN yesterday’s downside at 60.5 was a good buy. Up to you if U want to chase and increase your cost basis and or wait for a pullback

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:10 am

@doug.sekula: if U have $$ to invest why not invest in another name that hasnt seen upside yet and has corrected quite a bit such as a LNKD, CREE, ZNGA, or slight pullbacks in AMZN GOOG AAPL

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:12 am

@doug.sekula: or I u have none and want to dip a toe in some GLD or GDX. Once again its in a channel per OZ Gold is 1350 top of channel and 1250 bottom of it. Yesterday it was at 1260

doug.sekula

November 13, 2013 – 10:17 am

@eryba1: Sold some more of my already heavily sized CIEN position, was thinking of buying more FB at these levels. Was thinking of ZNGA but thought I missed the boat from $2ish. Buy some TQNT, have none since I dumped all after earnings.

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:18 am

@doug.sekula: I like LNKD a lot here, amzn, FB but lets diversify vs load the boat and get too big in any single position. GOGO here is a nice entry

doug.sekula

November 13, 2013 – 10:19 am

GOGO as a spec play?

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:19 am

@doug.sekula: Cien- lets wait for it to start acting better we can always swing back to it if it stays at 23 handle waiting for earnings in 3 weeks. Meanwhile ZNGA moving, Cree footing found? same for TSLA, LNKD AMZN FB?

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:19 am

@doug.sekula: yes let that wifi in airplanes play cool off abit

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:21 am

doug.sekula

November 13, 2013 – 10:22 am

Hahaha that’s what I thought you would say

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:23 am

@doug.sekula: lets add whats pulled back and found firm footing such as a LNKD, CREE, AMZN,FB,AAPL.GOOG,TSLA, that is what I have done

doug.sekula

November 13, 2013 – 10:24 am

@eryba1: Thanks

eryba1

@Jeffhok1970: nice entry at these levels from its recent drop from 252 to 208

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:37 am

NO I would wait. lets remember TQNT CREE CIEN drops from earnings that HURT BADLY, if U bot at 42-45 I have discussed with others here to sell at 62 or so 1-2 days ago. Its had run 50% higher

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:39 am

I sold Xone too early but moved into lnkd, tsla, cree, znga, and FB

jahmon

November 13, 2013 – 10:51 am

Thinking about it, isn’t Bitcoin acting like yet another momo?

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:51 am

@doug.sekula: no dagger those r thrown by TQNT FIO CREE and other 15-20% decliners overnight!

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:52 am

I love the feeling of growing my portfolio- but must I be a shrink and state the obvious the sensation of losing money is 10 X stronger than that of making money!!

doug.sekula

November 13, 2013 – 10:53 am

It is!!!

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 10:56 am

@doug.sekula: so lets never forget it and gamble BIG wager too large into earnings, trim if the stock has run into earnings like an XONE like CREE TQNt FB thye all pulled back

eryba1

November 13, 2013 – 11:08 am

@doug.sekula: I think your find U do better if U dont load up because that sort of action doubling down will cause you to repeat those actions for other names as well and we know it doenst always work out. For every FSLR pop after earnings even after a nice rise into earnings there is always the TQNT CREE FB JNPR LNKD and thus that course of action really keep your portfolio from TRULY OUTPERFORING if you think about it.
