Is anybody thinking about an earnings report type play in the window dressing period? FB is “must own” and is already >$50 in the pre-market. BBRY?

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 8:31 am

Facebook numbers raised at Jefferies SEP 26, 2013 | 8:15 AM EDT Shares of FB now seen reaching $60, Jefferies said. Estimates also increased through 2014 on promising new ad products. Buy rating.

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 8:32 am

@Olivepetunia: not following u. earnings report type play?

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 8:37 am

Lindsay downgraded at William Blair SEP 26, 2013 | 7:55 AM EDT LNN was downgraded from Outperform to Market Perform, William Blair said. Expect declines in the irrigation business.

Olivepetunia

September 26, 2013 – 8:42 am

@eryba1: After earnings are announced stocks can spike up or down depending on results. With window dressing period buying or selling pressure should abate, at least temporarily, once the quarter ends. You suggested buying XONE for this reason. How much would FB have to spike into the end of the quarter to make this (buying puts) a promising strategy?

Olivepetunia

September 26, 2013 – 8:43 am

@eryba1: LNN Is there any reaction in the pre-market?

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 9:23 am

@Olivepetunia: not just yet

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 9:26 am

@Olivepetunia: That is subjective! There is the looming budget fight in washington. It may or may not affcet things we need to watch carefully. Again the dow and S&p have been down 5 straight days yet individual stocks like amzn FB lnkd tsla znga have been doping well so its very much a stock pickers market. If these leaders start to turn south for more than a day or 2 on heavy volume it could be a sign of more market weakness.

cnbc alery COOk and carl Ichan meeting today

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 9:29 am

lets watch today for FSLR on higher volume break above overhead resistance of 41-41.5 and then break out. Lets see if some sort of bottom may be in for XONE if sellers are done.

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 9:52 am

xone whipping boy at months end

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 9:54 am

I am adding another tranche of some long common on this decline getting quite oversold but sellers everywhere

Olivepetunia

September 26, 2013 – 9:57 am

@eryba1: Following you

jahmon

brutal non stop bleeding – XONE…The tough trade to make or chasing?

TL15

September 26, 2013 – 11:09 am

@Cody or @eryba1, do you suggest any other plays on gold? Are there any thoughts about individual mining companies such as NGD or is it a safer to bet on the ETF?

sonny@

September 26, 2013 – 12:07 pm

Cody, would you short FB here?

penny

September 26, 2013 – 12:38 pm

Any updates on the ECTY bankruptcy position?

jakef1111

September 26, 2013 – 12:52 pm

Im not sure how excited i am to buy xone why not ssys or ddd that have held up well and made a ton of acquisitions

Nels

September 26, 2013 – 1:05 pm

@Jakef1111 I nibbled on some XONE this morning as the knife slipped through my fingers and stuck in my big toe. $46/sh. I appreciate the macro outlook on 3-d printing, but really liked the wicked drop in XONE, and looks like some sort of a solid floor @45.

ebdavids

September 26, 2013 – 1:24 pm

@penny: I asked the same question of Cody yesterday in the Q and A, and his answer was that his BK plays usually take a couple of weeks to work out and he was holding on to it and watching for another week or so.

jakef1111

September 26, 2013 – 2:48 pm

@Nels: if investing has taught me one thing its to invest in the best in an industry… Is xone the best… When the great 3d shakeout happens who will be the amzn aapl goog ebay pcln…. I cant say that i know xone is not or ddd is not but i feel like the moves ssys made with buying makerbot and making deals with ups opens the door to mainstream use of a product…… Just my thoughts

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 2:58 pm

@jahmon: This is a perfect of why buying a falling knife is not the best approach vs buying winning stocks. I bought under 49 and it still stings. Its quite oversold but today vol hi = to me being dumped left and right for months end. Lets see where and when it bounces just if only as relief to the oversold nature

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 3:00 pm

Hope others followed cody and sold some ZNGA yesterday near 8% decline today. FSLR gave up 4% rise as overhead resistance is still strong at 41.5 it seems many sellers waiting there

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 3:01 pm

At this pace I would not be surprised to see ANOTHER weak close and day 6 of the decline for the averages in a row. TRIN over 1 reading day 6 in a row has been the tell today near 67% rise to 1.3 level less than an hr to go. APL FB AMZN LNKD CIEN acting well

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 3:06 pm

@jakef1111: U R Right seems ssys is the anointed one. I bought Xone for an oversold bounce and it sure hasnt arrived and is still falling hard.

Nels

September 26, 2013 – 3:30 pm

@eryba1 and Jakef1111: Yep, I bought on the oversold bounce as well. I tend to think along Cody’s lines, that XONE is part of the 3-D basket, and be starting on tranching into SSYS for a solid long-term position.

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 3:33 pm

@Nels: todays 6% drop and SSYS 2.5% pop shows the extremes of the basket. Xone was at 75 today lets call it 45 a 40% decline. I may if we get a nice bounce sell and move onto a better acting stock and chart

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 3:58 pm

adding a but more xone common long shares at the close

eryba1

September 26, 2013 – 4:02 pm

trin above 1 reading for 6th straight day in a row. lets see how this fear index correlates to a better bounce day as 6 1+ days in a row matches a record. individual stocks did very well.

calmdaw1

September 27, 2013 – 8:57 am

good morning all

eryba1

September 27, 2013 – 8:58 am

@calmdaw1: GM

calmdaw1

September 27, 2013 – 8:59 am

markets a little rattled this morning. interesting to see how it plays out going into the weekend

888

September 27, 2013 – 9:00 am

@eryba1: still buying into XONE?

eryba1

September 27, 2013 – 9:01 am

@calmdaw1: A weak open after a lackluster bounce yesterday that happened almost in the last 10-15 min. Budget battle is looming, Gold will be out hedge? lets watch and see as its up 1% or so in the pre market GLD & GDX. The TRIN is now +1 for 6 straight days and that has usually led to .5-1% rise in the markets afterwards.

eryba1

September 27, 2013 – 9:02 am

@888: I added a 3rd tranche yesterday at the close

eryba1

September 27, 2013 – 9:04 am

I have meetings all day today So I will be out of the office until the afternoon, but will be monitoring the markets on my NEW APP Cody!!

calmdaw1

September 27, 2013 – 9:05 am

Xone – ugly right now. I am waiting to see it stabilize

888

September 27, 2013 – 9:10 am

@calmdaw1: XONE reminds me of FIO

888

September 27, 2013 – 9:10 am

a falling star

888

September 27, 2013 – 9:11 am

I remember eryba1 buying it all the way down.. was scary and FIO is still falling

doug.sekula

September 27, 2013 – 9:25 am

@888: He wasnt the only one buying all the way down!!! Lost my @ss on FIO. Bought XONE at 50 right before it started dropping hard. A little nervous.

888

September 27, 2013 – 9:27 am

For every winner there is always a loser.. I rem Cody buying Zynga at $7 and rated it highly, and yes he bought FB at its 20s.. almost a random game really

Benb

September 27, 2013 – 9:42 am

Wish I had put all of my money in FB at $17, that thing ain’t never coming down.

calmdaw1

September 27, 2013 – 9:43 am

@Benb – that’s what everyone was saying about AAPL

Benb

September 27, 2013 – 9:44 am

@calmdaw1 yea but apple didn’t come out and say on an earnings call that they expected future revenue to double within the year. I knew apple was doomed at $700.

calmdaw1

September 27, 2013 – 9:46 am

@Benb – I remember you being bearish on AAPL. Just saying nothing goes up forever except maybe the fed deficit

doug.sekula

September 27, 2013 – 11:16 am

@Benb: I remember, you were on point with AAPL. Called it exactly right!

jahmon

September 27, 2013 – 11:35 am

Nice to have the SPY puts and VIX calls today

msamuels2000

September 27, 2013 – 11:47 am

@jahmon: and PHYS/GLD/GDX I’m also closing in on some GDXJ calls to satisfy my gambling addiction

Cody

September 27, 2013 – 12:03 pm

XONE is a small cap at $600MM valuation and probably has as much risk and as much potential upside as any position in our portfolio. It’ll be worth $3BB some day, or it will be worth $30MM some day. I’m betting on the prior.

msamuels2000

September 27, 2013 – 12:14 pm

@Cody: don’t like the action on AAPL so I took my profits (albeit a bit less than last week) on the AAPL Oct calls on the other hand MSFT calls showing some signs of life

jahmon

September 27, 2013 – 12:27 pm

Yeah. I think we missed peak on aapl, gdx and bbry. Live and learn.

Olivepetunia

September 27, 2013 – 12:47 pm

FB seems to be on a relentless upward move, but everything has some down days. Cody forecast that FB would become a “must own”; does anyone see a play (in FB puts) anticipating a pullback after Monday when window dressing has ended for this quarter?

jahmon

September 27, 2013 – 1:25 pm

Head fake on GDX today

vmontes

September 27, 2013 – 1:43 pm

Olivepetunia: I rather buy puts on the SPY than FB for a short term play

Johan

September 27, 2013 – 2:32 pm

JNPR looks good to add…

msamuels2000

September 27, 2013 – 2:34 pm

@jahmon: Son of a gun – my bid on the GDKJ calls hit and they are immediately down. I guess we will see who blinks first…the precious metals manipulators or me. Don’t like my odds but I going to go down swinging

truck

September 27, 2013 – 2:58 pm

Does anyone know if the Oct 1st deadline for a government shutdown is at the end of the day or at the beginning of the day (12:01am)?

eryba1

September 27, 2013 – 3:55 pm

is the market SMARTER this time around regarding the budget? does it know it will get resolved thus not selling off badly as Obama speaks now? Trin up now 6-7 days in a row. a record some tell me. fear index at 36

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 9:47 am

All govt hype all the time. The real question is — what lies past the next two weeks? Can the bubble inflate to a great blow off top? Or did we just see the bubble inflate to its great blow off top this year already?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 9:48 am

@truck: Still holding the ECTY. It’s a risky BK flip, remember.

rzepeda

September 30, 2013 – 9:49 am

What are people targeting if there is a pullback in the market. For me I am looking at CIEN, AAPL, FB

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:02 am

@rzepeda: I’m with ya, but am in no rush to add just yet.

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:02 am

What does everybody think of the site clean-up/redesign we did on TradingWithCody.com over the weekend?

jahmon

September 30, 2013 – 10:18 am

Miss the chat window on the splash page, now have to click a layer down to get to it…less convenient mobile experience. That’s the main change I see.

jahmon

September 30, 2013 – 10:24 am

Much cleaner initial presentation without all of the tweets as well.

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:32 am

@jahmon: I can put the chat back in the sidebar on every page innlcluding the splash page

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:32 am

shall i, then?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:32 am

you guys all like it better with the chat visible on every page?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:33 am

or just the homepage?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:33 am

and this chat room page obviously

rzepeda

September 30, 2013 – 10:33 am

If you post something on the homepage and we are on this chat page, will we instantly know?

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 10:34 am

cody U adding to xone on this further 5% decline?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:34 am

hmm, i don’t think so..but i could also try to make that happen if that’s what u guys prefer

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:34 am

and yes, @eryba1: I’m thinking about adding a tranche to the XONE, but boy does it act sick or what lately?

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 10:35 am

@Cody: sick is an understatement. I though I missed out on a bottom at 50 when I saw it pop to 55 now at 43 its UGLY!!

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 10:36 am

I just added some common in Xone

rzepeda

September 30, 2013 – 10:36 am

@Cody – I dont mind the chat room on a diff page, but I want to make sure I don’t miss one of your posts

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:37 am

@rzepeda: Ok, thanks for the feedback. Others?

jahmon

September 30, 2013 – 10:37 am

I would prefer the chat on all the pages, Cody. Easy reference to the commentary on the board even while looking at other articles, posts, etc. and less clicking during the mobile experience.

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:38 am

@jahmon: I’m thinking i agree with u.

jahmon

September 30, 2013 – 10:39 am

Would XONE be a candidate for any calls with this steep, steep drop and new month tomorrow?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:40 am

@jahmon: Sure, but as you know that kind of a trade is VERY HIGH RISK.

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:40 am

but the payoff would be huge if it worked out

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:43 am

I put the Subscriber Chat Room back on the sidebar

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:43 am

hit refresh

Johan

September 30, 2013 – 10:44 am

Hi Cody and everybody, good morning and good week for all us…, Cody I really prefer the chat roon right in the homepage. Have to click in other page I didn’t like it. Best

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:45 am

@Johan: it’s back on teh front page

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:45 am

jahmon

September 30, 2013 – 10:47 am

If you bought XONE calls cody would you do something like Oct 45 or push to Nov?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:47 am

November would be safer but more expensive

Johan

September 30, 2013 – 10:48 am

Good!

msamuels2000

September 30, 2013 – 10:48 am

@jahmon: I picked up a tiny call position on XONE on Fri…which means it’s probably a terrible idea but I may add today

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:50 am

@msamuels2000: Hardest trade?

msamuels2000

September 30, 2013 – 10:53 am

@Cody: In this bear run yes it is unless there is some sort of accounting irregularity we don’t know about

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:53 am

@msamuels2000: You have all of that analysis right, IMHO.

msamuels2000

September 30, 2013 – 10:56 am

@Cody: quick ? from a marginally experienced option trader…I sold/shorted some Jan 2015 $15s BBRY calls. Am I correct in thinking that I should never have to buy those back if the buyout goes through?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:58 am

@msamuels2000: My answer is — yes, I do believe that is correct, but check with your broker where the options reside to make sure.

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 10:58 am

If the hardest trade to make is usually the right one to make, do tell — what is the single hardest trade you can think of making right here right now?

jahmon

September 30, 2013 – 11:03 am

For me it would be buying more XONE calls since I’m losing my shirt on the ones I bought last week…

msamuels2000

September 30, 2013 – 11:07 am

@Cody: Selling BIDU – it’s the gift that keeps on giving…maybe also adding GOOG since it’s been so stagnant lately

msamuels2000

September 30, 2013 – 11:09 am

@jahmon: just picked up XONE Nov $40

MikeM

September 30, 2013 – 11:15 am

@Cody: Cody, your thoughts on trading the recent big surge in Chinese solar stocks? Their comeback over the past few months has been phenomonal…but a a very volatile group to trade.

jahmon

September 30, 2013 – 11:19 am

@msamuels2000. Ha…I did too before I even saw your post.

msamuels2000

September 30, 2013 – 11:25 am

@jahmon: ha you must be in at a dime less than me – good luck to us!

calmdaw1

September 30, 2013 – 11:25 am

@Cody – sometimes I think the hardest trade is no trade at all. I guess that’s why patience is a virtue

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 11:47 am

Im adding to FSLR today and adding back to my cien position that I sold at 26

George Mtz

September 30, 2013 – 12:20 pm

Hi Cody, do you recommend to play safe this two weeks and sell today befor the US Government shot down? I have a good position with in my portafolio in Apple and just wanted to see your poit of view?

George Mtz

September 30, 2013 – 12:22 pm

Cody, are you trimming some of your positions on Apple and other common stocks in your portafolio with this Government Shot Down, markets supposible will drop 5 to 7% for what I have been hearing?

drefleury

September 30, 2013 – 12:35 pm

anyone picking up VIX calls/

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 12:46 pm

@George Mtz: I just wrote the following: “Oh, and about that government shut down? If anything, it’s going to be a “Flip It” kind of contrarian result in the markets that would see them sell-off as soon as the Republican/Democrat Regime pretends that their pretend showdown here is resolved. Trying to game that government shutdown stuff and how the markets will roll with it is not a winning strategy. ”

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 12:47 pm

@calmdaw1: I think you are onto something there!

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 1:02 pm

@Cody: any fundamental reason for XONE to be the biggest loser in your basket of 3d printing stocks? I just entered this name on the decline and its been painful to watch as its declined from 55 to 42 = over 20% decline

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 1:05 pm

Its a further confirmation for me to be in winning stocks with winning / positive charts on pullbacks vs trying to buy a declining stock like Xone. Even if window dressing is at play here and dumping until the Oct month is over this has been hard to find even a sustained bounce / or reach a floor to stabalize as near 23% decline from just recent hi of 55 much less 71 level and just before that 75-76 level.

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 1:24 pm

Im following codys e-mail and trimming FB here as well. With a possible gov shutdown tonight and no end of month action tomorrow to prop up stocks as may be happening today I want more dry powder to make additions in the coming days at potentially lower prices

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 1:26 pm

@eryba1: Not any fundamental reason I know of except that their last quarter report wasn’t as strong as DDD and SSYS so maybe every 3-D printing investor has been selling $XONE and buying those two. We trimmed $SSYS near its highs and time to add to the $XONE for me.

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 1:28 pm

@Cody: Thank you. The decline in Xone has been severe. If I had not just entered it on the long side and waiting for a bounce of sorts I would not have held it from its fall of 71 to 42.

winkyjeff

September 30, 2013 – 2:29 pm

I bought ecty but now it has changed to ECTYQ and the price is .07 instead of .12. What is up with this???

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 3:06 pm

@winkyjeff: Getting a ! on the end of the symbol what happens to a BK stock eventually usually. We’ve yet to get a tick up on this BK flip since we added it. UGHW(*&#(*&@#(*&@#

sonny@

September 30, 2013 – 3:07 pm

Cody, are you more bearish or bullish on the stock market as a whole now?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 3:08 pm

I’m still bullish overall, but I do expect some ugliness at some point before year end.

eryba1

September 30, 2013 – 3:10 pm

@Cody: I feel that ugliness is about to rear its head as the parties fight over the budget and the market declines. Can U make a buy list of what U want to buy and at what levels? A shopping lists of sorts? interested to run such an program?

sonny@

September 30, 2013 – 3:11 pm

Cody, if the shutdown is real and long lasting, then the market has not priced in this situation, no?

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 3:11 pm

@eryba1: Yes, I like that idea.

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 3:12 pm

@sonny@: That’s a big, very unlikely IF, IMHO, but I think the market will sell-the-news even if/when they do resolve the shutdown.

calmdaw1

September 30, 2013 – 3:14 pm

I think they will pass a one week extension before the deadline. This will insure that I have to keep hearing all their endless crap for at least 7 more days

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 3:14 pm

@calmdaw1: Now that is some good predicting there I do believe. Good call.

winkyjeff

September 30, 2013 – 3:27 pm

@Cody: So does that mean that only #ECTYQ is now tradable and not #ECTY – i.e. all ECTY has turned into ECTYQ? Looks like a dog.

sonny@

September 30, 2013 – 3:35 pm

I’d not trade any small cap or micro cap stock in the next 3 months.

doug.sekula

September 30, 2013 – 3:36 pm

Just bought ECTYQ (first tranche)

Cody

September 30, 2013 – 6:26 pm

The tension over the stupid pretend budget ceiling negotiations is such total BS — stop sending trillions in explicit and implicit welfare to the most profitable banks and giant corporations on the planet if you really wanna fix the budget. The rest is noise. A total reset with non-RDs in charge is necessary.

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 9:00 am

there is such a mixed bag of feelings as to whats happening. Some thing it will be a prolonged gov shutdown that will affect outlooks for Q4 when Q3 comes out and thats NOT in the #’s. Others think this is all a side show and it wont matter at all. Meanwhile gold is down 33 dollars this morning. So as usual its a stock pickers market watch individual names and have cash on hand as its looking like a bumpy Oct

Well, the market doesn’t want to care what the stupid Republican/Democrat Regime puppets do with the Government Hoedown, so you have to wonder if they’ll find yet another crisis to pretend to save you from. Syria, Govt shutdown, debt ceiling…what’s next on their pretend agenda? And most important — will a resolution here bring on a sell-the-news reaction like I’ve been surmising?

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 9:44 am

@Cody: best thing to do is just watch individual stocks like FSLR CREE and others who are doing well

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 9:49 am

U’ve HAD some AMAZING CALLS in CIEN FB AMZN CREE and well to trim as of recently and see if this goc shutdown does bring upon a pullback as it has down 15650 to 15150. Sp 1711 to 1680 so far. Yest you mentioned you liked the idea of a shopping list of stocks and their price levels on pullbacks you would be interested to add to. Can we start today? Cody, was waiting on the CREE calls you said you were going to do…would have popped big huh?

Nels

October 1, 2013 – 10:23 am

There will be another entry point, 10% pops are selling opportunities as well.

October 1, 2013 – 10:42 am

aaple ichan says hes pleading for a 150 bil buyback..wow

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 10:48 am

@jahmon: Shoulda woulda coulda. We did step in and start buying the common at $56 and added more last week. Better than a sharp stick in the eye if not as a good as call options would have been.

I’m thrilled to announce that the Scutify app community has now passed the 15,000 active users mark. We’ll have an Android app available in the next couple weeks, so stay tuned. iPad app coming next too. And lots of great updates, new features and capabilities are in the works for all the apps, including the existing iPhone app. Scutify has now become the fastest growing network on the entire Internet.

@jahmon: may have jumped in at the bottom on XONE yesterday. Finally breaking the down trend today

I don’t know him but I love Icahn. Apple possibly buying back 1/3 of float? Time to buy more apple.

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 11:09 am

@Benb: I’ve met Icahn and listened to several market presentations he’s made in NYC over the years. He’s like a Ron Paul or a Ralph Nader in that few people actually read/listen to their actual ideas and reasoning, but that they usually make a LOT of sense.

tendency

October 1, 2013 – 11:25 am

this entire budget crisis is such a joke .. how does the military continue to get paid if the budget has not passed? completely arbitrary and further reinforces the notion this is an entirely manufactured crisis. what BS

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 11:26 am

@tendency: From your fingertips to God’s eyeballs.

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:27 am

@tendency: this country is in crisis until we all stand up and end the BS instead of focusing on our personal bubble these politicians will run us into the ground

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:28 am

On a happy note tho i always hear less gov less gov how about none?

calmdaw1

October 1, 2013 – 11:33 am

@jakef1111 – stand up and end it? the American people are the ones who keep voting to continue with it.

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 11:38 am

@calmdaw1: Never vote Republican or Democrat again. They are both beholden to the same puppet masters. The only way to save our country’s economy and society and sovereignty is to vote indie until the majority joins us.

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:38 am

Yea and most of that is out of lack of education and interest to change things…if people took more time to educate themselves on the system and why things are the way they are they wouldnt stand for it

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:42 am

I didnt absolve we the people… Were just as responsible as the people screwing us in politics for allowing it to happen…

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:42 am

So @cody when are you running for indie?

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:42 am

6months free with our vote lol

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 11:43 am

@jakef1111: ROFL. Not anytime soon. I got lots of other battles and successes I’m fighting for first.

calmdaw1

fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me continuously for years and years……

echan008

October 1, 2013 – 11:46 am

@Cody: Should I trim CREE?

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 11:49 am

@echan008: Nothing wrong with taking a little off a huge pop like this. I do think CREE is a good long-term position, but discipline trumps conviction, as Jim Cramer taught me long ago in his office when discussing this very type of idea.

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:50 am

@Cody: i read ur posts on politics and wonder when your gonna help the US out too much self interest (american people)to see the problems … Wait till your in your 50s by then youll need a personal jet…..its funny i have posted things on fb about politics no one cares i get 2likes but if i post about a kitty playing with a ball of yarn it will go viral

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 11:52 am

@jakef1111: I used to tell me TV viewers to be prepared for a very tough, uphill road to get rid of the RDRegime. They would always email me about how hard it’s going to be…and I’m like, “Uh, yeah, I know. Did you think unseating a corrupted status quo would be easy?”

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 11:56 am

Last thing ill say that i really dont get is when we have a credit card bill we all im sure check it and comb every charge and make sure wether its our kid of wife who makes a charge make sure its legit… So why do we allow the gov to take trillions and not audit every penny… The government spending transparency act or something bug the hell outta me…..@cody yeah i doubt two terms would be enough and the damage it would do short term to the economy to make things right would probably make everyone give up

calmdaw1

October 1, 2013 – 11:57 am

Political affiliation is very similar to religious affiliation. Most people do whatever their parents did when they were a child and seldom if ever stop to question it.

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 12:00 pm

@calmdaw1: yup blind faith in something you dont care to educate yourself on… Much easier when your told how to think

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 12:13 pm

Whats so bad if the gov stays closed within a few months businesses will open to do what those departments did and probably create way more jobs and work more efficiently… I wonder how the rest of the world looks at a country that cant pass a budget…. World power?

jakef1111

October 1, 2013 – 12:14 pm

Anyways how about aapl inv shs?

Johan

October 1, 2013 – 12:28 pm

Cody, as new investment idea, what about shorting this: FireEye, Inc. (FEYE)?

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 12:29 pm

@Johan: Hmm, not in this bubblicious world, I’m afraid.

October 1, 2013 – 3:12 pm

what’s the symbol for pandora?

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 3:25 pm

@Cody: cody whats you take on the sun 1300 an ounce move in gold today? At this point its my biggest laggard albeit down a few % points. I am starting to think perhaps take those funds allocated to gold and it will garner better returns from a CIEN AMZN APPL. Whats your take on what will spark gold to finally start moving in the right direction??

Nels

October 1, 2013 – 3:31 pm

P

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 3:50 pm

R wee seeing a breakout in AMZN and FSLR?

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 3:50 pm

@jjss: P is the symbol for pandora

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 3:51 pm

@eryba1: Man, this stock market bubble is relentless. The gold delivery month of October is big, but December could really bring the catalyst and fireworks to gold.

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 3:54 pm

@Cody: Ok lets wait and see a bit longer. Will wait for GDX to cross above its 50 day avg at 27 to add more if truly anew bull market emerges there and on the GLD low 130’s as it reaches those areas then retreats badly. It just seems its in a tight range for now unless retreats further to prior lows gld 116 and gdx 22.5

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 3:58 pm

@Cody: in regards to relentless- truth be told where else do people have to put their $$?? now savings acct, Not cd’s if money os to work and if we ever see real inflation money needs to find a home to grow faster than inflation for it to gain vs lose value.

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 3:59 pm

@eryba1: Which is what I predicted three years ago…the question is when does the music stop. Once again.

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 4:01 pm

@Cody: I guess it will stop when there is at least something to compete with stocks for a decent yield / return on your money. The 10 year is still under 3% 2.64% today and unill we see 5+ % there is no real competition in my eyes. whats rate % u think starts to compete with stocks as an asset class to grow ones assets?

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 4:02 pm

@eryba1: I would think that is one of many possible reasons for the latest stock market bubble to pop.

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 4:02 pm

But not yet

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 4:03 pm

@Cody: sure unless rates spike overnight or in a short period of time we could see this go until mid to late 2014 if not further depends on valuations, rates and other factors fed tightening? We are here with to watch and see

eryba1

October 1, 2013 – 4:21 pm

thats here with you to see , out perfom and grow our portfolios. Amazing move in CREE today! GREAT buy at mid to low 50’s cody and thats coming from someone who wasnt in that position.

Cody

October 1, 2013 – 4:29 pm

@eryba1: ROCK ON!

eryba1

October 2, 2013 – 8:40 am

Some giveback this morning at the open is clear by the futures position. Gold is up 13 dollars or so back to $1300. Was the rise yesterday new $$ IRA, 529, 401K money into funds to start the new month and quarter. Lets watch and see.

eryba1

October 2, 2013 – 9:50 am

nice follow through early as it may be for the FSLR break above its 50 day avg yesterday on good vol lets see follow through today. Amzn green now GB leading in a down tape. Not to mention ZNGA THE BEAST and CIEN

Cody

October 2, 2013 – 10:08 am

@eryba1: ZNGA still just a call option on the app stock bubble continuing to blow bigger. And if the biz ever actually starts generating growth and cash, it’s a great call option on the company and its new CEO.

eryba1

October 2, 2013 – 10:20 am

nice bounce in metals, gold + $28. im going to add to FSLR & CIEN

Cody

October 2, 2013 – 10:23 am

@eryba1: Nice momentum in both. Can they go up even if the market pulls back 5% in the near-term?

eryba1

October 2, 2013 – 10:26 am

@Cody: They are showing GREAT resolve. FSLR already had its 30% pullback and I like the break yest above its 50 day avg on good vol looking for follow through today, so I like the setup here for now. S&P was 1725 and yest hit 1680 so a 3% pullback so far. Cien strong recently after its decline 26 to 24.25. I like the action in AAPL as well. Gold bouncing for now.

jahmon

October 2, 2013 – 10:30 am

Pandora up over 5% this morning

Cody

October 2, 2013 – 10:31 am

@jahmon: Yes, about to send out a note talking about that and how I’m using it to scale into a second tranche.

jahmon

October 2, 2013 – 10:31 am

K, thx

eryba1

October 2, 2013 – 10:32 am

@Cody: not adding a lot but adding small positions. For now acting strong in a down tape

Johan

October 2, 2013 – 12:35 pm

Cody if YouTube

Johan

October 2, 2013 – 12:39 pm

cody is you want be conservative nowdays, what would be the split you indicate in terms of cash vs stocks?

eryba1

October 2, 2013 – 1:06 pm

@Cody: interesting note by your friend Marcin: Question is if things are so hi and we spoke about this yest where are people to invest to see their money perform. You are covering some SPY shorts? if U think a 5-10% correction may be coming why not add to shorts vs cover? S&P 1725 to 1680 yesterday a 3.5% pullback so far in the making

weekly chat site not working for me. is it just me?

Olivepetunia

October 2, 2013 – 2:28 pm

@eryba1: Often have trouble with chat room not updating; sometimes it’s just not active – other times I get several hours of chatter all at once. Can never tell if it’s the site or the local server or what, but it’s not working presently.

Olivepetunia

October 2, 2013 – 2:32 pm
